New Skills for Learning frameworks to measure what matters.

Tomorrow Starts Here.

Assessment

Throughout their time at Hunter Hall, children are assessed in English and Maths using standardised tests, allowing teachers and leaders to measure and evaluate progress and attainment against national benchmarks. The results of these tests are shared at parents’ evenings so that parents have a clear picture of their child’s attainment and progress in English and Maths.

At Hunter Hall, we recognise that to prepare children for secondary school and the world beyond, we need to enable children to become independent, self-directed learners who not only set their own goals but also evaluate their own progress and identify the next steps in their learning. We also prioritise teaching children how to think rather than what to think and therefore recognise that children have to be given opportunities to experiment and explore as well as to take risks and make mistakes, as part of an open, supportive learning environment where originality is cultivated and valued.

To this end, we have introduced new Skills for Learning frameworks to track development in Critical and Creative Thinking, Learning to Learn and Collaborative Learning. These frameworks help teachers, pupils and parents better understand how each child is progressing as a learner, focusing on the skills that will enable the children at Hunter Hall to thrive in the world that awaits them.

Each of these frameworks can be downloaded below to give a clear picture of the skills we are aiming to develop in the children at Hunter Hall.
