Welcome to Hunter Hall primary school

We know any parent looking for a new school for their child will have numerous questions. We welcome you to visit to find out more, but we hope this answers a few of your queries.

Why should I choose Hunter Hall School?

As we are a small primary school we believe we can nurture your child but education goes beyond the classroom.  We provide a rich, all-round education in the heart of the Cumbrian countryside.  The only preparatory primary school in the Penrith area, we pride ourselves on being able to develop and support all young people to reach their full potential.

Do you offer scholarships or bursaries?

We have a small number of bursaries available; there is a simple application process. Please contact Mr Paul Borrows, Head teacher, direct to talk through our bursary scheme.

Do you have Open Weeks?

We generally have an Open Week in October and one in March. However, we want our school to be accessible as possible and welcome you to visit any time. We feel parents get a real sense of what the school is like on a normal day, so therefore welcome you to get in touch to book an appointment at your convenience to come and meet us.

Where do pupils go when they leave Hunter Hall?

We aim to get your child into their school of choice.  Each year a number gain scholarships into excellent independent schools and many of our children are offered places into the much sought after local grammar school.

What is a typical school day?

School begins at 8.30am, however pupils may be dropped off from 8.15am. The school day ends at 3.00pm for Lower School and 3.15pm for Upper School, however the majority of pupils remain at school for the vast array of co-curricular activities or simply to complete homework/for childcare reasons. Pupils may stay until 5.30pm.

Do you offer a Bus Service

We run a morning minibus service on the A66 corridor with pick up points at Keswick, Threlkeld, Penruddock and Stainton.

The cost per term is currently £300 payable in arrears (A 25% third child discount is applicable)

We will review charges annually.

The current school policy is for pupils to commit to a full term’s use of the service and parents should advise the School before the end of the preceding term if they do not wish to take up a place during the following term.

A full term’s notice is required if you wish to give up your child’s place on the bus.

If you’re interested in using this service, please fill out the form below and we’ll be in touch:
