Your art securing the future of Creative Arts bursaries and scholarships

From its inception, Hunter Hall was intended not only to offer something different, but something innovative. The school’s independence meant that it could be imaginative in its approach to teaching and learning, not only in terms of what the children learnt but also how and where they learnt.

And art was very much at the heart of their approach.

For the last 40 years, Hunter Hall pupils have been encouraged to explore a wide range of art forms, artists and media in inspiring places both in and out of the classroom, guided by specialist teachers and visiting artists.

As we mark our 40th year, we are committed to ensuring that, in the years ahead, as many children as possible can benefit from the wide-ranging creative arts opportunities a Hunter Hall education provides. Therefore, we are asking for the help of artists and celebrities to support us as we launch The Hunter Hall 40th Anniversary Anonymous Art Event to help raise funds for Creative Arts Scholarships and Bursaries.

Hunter Hall School - Art class in the garden

What is the Anonymous Art Event?

We are appealing to artists and celebrities from around Cumbria and beyond to create A5 postcard size masterpieces to be exhibited and sold at an event on Saturday 6 June at the school itself.

These artistic contributions will be exhibited alongside current pupils’ creations. All 80 current children will be taking part, using their weekly dedicated art lessons complete their own A5 mini masterpieces for the event.

The twist? None of the artworks are signed on the front so people are buying blind for a fixed price. Only after their purchase do they discover who caught their eye.

The Hunter Hall 4oth Anniversary Art Event

The School Hall

Here’s how it works:

  • Form an orderly (!) queue outside the school hall – first come, first served!

  • Doors open 11am sharp

  • If it’s busy, we’ll let people in in groups of 10 for 5 mins each

  • If it’s busy we’ll limit initial sales to two person in the adult sale

  • You’ll be given two red stickers each

  • To reserve your artwork, stick a red sticker on it

  • Once you’ve reserved your choices, make a note of the unique ID number and find one of the floor staff

  • Give them your artwork number(s) and they will give you a reservation docket corresponding to each number

  • Go to the sales desk, complete the docket and keep the customer copy as proof of purchase

  • Pay for your artworks

  • Enjoy the 40th birthday fun on the field – or rejoin the queue for another round!

  • Return between 3pm and 4pm to collect your artwork – present the receipt as proof of purchase.

  • Alternatively, if you can’t stay around, please arrange with the team to collect your artworks from the office w/c 8 June
