A rich and varied extra-curricular programme to nurture the whole child.

Tomorrow Starts Here.

Enrichment

Clubs

Our rich and varied extra-curricular programme plays a vital role in nurturing the whole child, building confidence and resilience. Our clubs are delivered by passionate members of staff as well as expert external providers, ensuring high-quality experiences for the children.

Clubs currently offered include: horticulture, dance, cookery, choir, band, engineering, art, running, football and tennis.

Every day between 16.30 and 17.30, children of all ages are welcome to stay for Board Games Club. This is wonderful way for the children to wind down at the end of the day, with children of different ages playing together or making puzzles together.

Enrichment afternoons

On Tuesday afternoons, the children in the Upper School choose from a range of exciting activities, joining with a mixed-age group to explore an area of learning for which they have a particular passion. The activities add breadth to the curriculum, providing opportunities for the children to develop a wide range of interests.

Currently, the activities on offer include: textiles, horticulture, micro:bit programming, Latin, creative writing, drama, enterprise, debating, design, further maths and philosophy.

School Productions

Every child in the school from Pre-School to year 6 takes part in a school production each year. In EYFS and Lower School, these productions take place at Christmas. In Upper School, these take place in the summer term. Recent productions have ranged from ‘The Greatest Showman’ to ‘The Lion King’ to ‘Despicable Me’. We use bespoke scripts, tailored to our own pupils to truly make the performances unique to us. We have the advantage of benefiting from professional lighting and projection facilities in each production, which help to make each performance look and feel just a little bit more special.

Trips and Residentials

Throughout the school, the curriculum is enriched by a wide variety of trips. We take full advantage of the museums, theatres and other places of interest close to the school, as well as making the most of the wonderful opportunities available for days out across the north of England.

In the Lower School, children make the most of opportunities to get out and about in the local area, with visits to the fire station, a Christmas tree farm and the zoo amongst much else. We also welcome a number of guests into school to talk to the children, including dentists, vets, police officers and farmers (so long as they bring a tractor for the children to sit in!).

As the children move into the Upper School they begin to explore further afield with trips to the Roman fort at Vindolanda as well as to the Jorvik Centre in York. Every year, the children go to the Theatre by the Lake in Keswick and also enjoy a trip to the Kendal Mountain Festival.

From Year 3 onwards, we gradually introduce our children to residential trips. The residential trips offer the children the opportunity to develop independence away from home, contributing significantly to their personal development.
