Art, Music & Culture

At Hunter Hall School Penrith, we want every child to be able to express themselves. Some of them choose to do this through writing, some through talking and others through more tangible means such as through painting, drawing or playing music.

Music

Music is a busy and thriving area of Hunter Hall primary school Penrith.  Many peripatetic instrumental teachers give lessons at the school on a weekly basis, which include piano, voice, classical and electric guitar, saxophone, clarinet, flute and drums.  Lessons are held during school time on a rota so that there is minimal disruption to academic study.

Art

Art is a highly valued aspect of the curriculum we offer at Hunter Hall School Penrith – stimulating creativity and imagination, art provides visual, tactile and sensory experiences and a special way of understanding and responding to the world. It enables children to communicate what they see, feel and think through the use of colour, texture, form, pattern and different materials and processes. Children become involved in shaping their environments through art, craft and design activities. They learn to make informed judgements and aesthetic and practical decisions. They explore ideas and meanings through the work of artists and designers. Through learning about the roles and functions of art, they can explore the impact it has had on contemporary life and that of different times and cultures.

Drama

Confidence and ability to perform in front of a live audience are fundamental skills which at Hunter Hall School Penrith, we feel every child should be entitled to strive for. That’s why drama and performance play a huge part in the school curriculum.

Often through the performances we are able to identify talented individuals who go on to gain scholarships to both senior schools and also music and drama schools.  Lower School pupils perform the annual take on the traditional nativity but always with an ‘alternative’ edge!  Upper School pupils perform a classic (but often alternative) musical production.  Musical productions have included 'Annie', 'the Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe', 'A Midsummer Night's Dream', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'The Sound of Music' and 'The Wizard of Oz'

In addition to our popular after-school drama clubs for both Upper and Lower School, specialist tuition is also available in speech and drama leading to LAMDA entry examinations.
