Pre School news 08.02.2019

​We have been exploring the Chinese New Year in the pre-school this week. Amongst other things the children have really enjoyed taking part in our ‘Chopstick Challenge’ where they had to use chopsticks to pick up objects as well as real noodles.

As well as being a fun way of exploring different cultures this is a really good activity for strengthening and developing those fine motor skills. We have also been enlivening stories; focusing on the story ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.’ As well as acting out this story as a group the children have been retelling the story independently using the small world characters; we even managed to go on a bear hunt during our yoga sessions!

During our Tuesday challenge we were thinking of ways to rescue some arctic animals from a melting iceberg in the middle of the ocean; this challenge was a great way of encouraging the children to use their problem solving skills and we were very impressed with their ideas, which included boats, bridges and various other items produced using different resources.
