Hunter Hall v Austin Friars

Our U11s served up an impressive display of rugby against a capable Austin Friars team.

Both teams were evenly matched and there was very little to choose between the two sides; both teams displaying some skilful handling and determined tagging. Samuel made significant inroads in the Austin Friars defence with his combative and direct running style. Edward displayed excellent support running ensuring he was constantly on his team mates’ shoulder and a regular on the score sheet. Stefan produced the try of the afternoon when he single-handedly went past the entire Austin Friars team, not just once but twice! It was an impressive team performance and a great opportunity to lock horns and then break bread with the Austin Friars boys.

Our U9 team were a little too friendly early on and took a while to really show what they are capable of. Austin Friars took full advantage of the missed tags and large gaps in the defensive wall. With a little encouragement, they began to attack with far greater vigour. Matthew picked up the first of several tries following some mazy running and with Piers following suit they worked their way back into the game. The second half saw them tag with greater hunger: Fergal leading from the front. Casey proved difficult to catch as he side-stepped this way and that, but constant pressure from the

whole of the Austin Friars defence caused several handling errors; perhaps helping the away team to edge the encounter. Well done to the whole team for raising their performance when they needed to.
