On Friday 24th January, Hunter Hall attended the Eden Valley Junior School Chess Competition hosted by Long Marton Primary School. An amazing 76 pupils from eight local primary schools and three Year 7 teams from local secondary schools competed against each other in both team and individual tournaments. Having won five matches in a row, Stefan made it to the final of the individual tournament. He was up against a familiar adversary from Long Marton. Both of them have beaten each other in the past, and on this occasion Stefan came off second best.

In the team competition, the Hunter Hall team consisted of Lola (the first girl to represent Hunter Hall at chess), Piers, Casey and Stefan. Lola gave a good account of herself winning three of her six matches. Piers won four and Casey was awarded a certificate for, along with Stefan, winning five. The top three scores counted giving Hunter Hall 14 points- one point behind Long Marton. Coming second out of 11 schools was a commendable performance by the Hunter Hall team. Mr P Sturgess
