We are celebrating our climbing team success, as our A and B climbing teams took the top two places in the mixed category at Eden Rock on Wednesday 4th March. After both teams secured their places in the Cumbrian Schools Competition final last month, they were eagerly looking forward to challenging themselves against the best that had made it through the preliminary rounds.

In a similar format to the previous round, our climbers had to tackle 20 ‘problems’ which varied in difficulty, scoring points depending on the number of attempts they needed to complete them (or not). Working through the problems within each zone, it was clear that the challenges were at least as difficult, or perhaps even more so than previously, but all of our climbers pushed themselves superbly, whilst encouraging one another. In fact, I have heard reports of one or two-finger blisters, such was the determination of our competitors to cling on!

Once all of the climbing had finished, the judges totalled up the scores, while the teams had their well-deserved lunches. We waited for the announcement of the results in hope, but we certainly couldn’t have expected to have done quite so well. Second place for our B team, with the A side crowned winners overall, and taking the striking mixed team trophy back to Hunter Hall with them – what an incredible result! Each team also received certificates and climbing goodies, such as chalk balls, chalk bags and climbing tape, which the children were most excited about!

The strength in depth and climbing talent we currently have at Hunter Hall has never been stronger, so we are delighted with such our climbing team success. We look forward to further progress in the sport, where the future is bright indeed. Well done to all of our climbers!
